Veggie mode: ON - Day 1

So this is day 1...!

How did it all start? Well, at home we barely eat meat or fish. However, cooking (specially with no meat or fish) is quite an unknown science to me. In order to change this,I attended an amazing workshop: introduction to vegetarianism by Um Curso em Sabores.

I got introduced to soy, tofu and seitan with 1 recipe each.

As there was a vegan in the room, we talked about eggs and how bad chicken live in these farms (I will talk about eggs classification in some other post). Then we talked about the process of making sausages.

I got a bit more curious about this and watched some videos about those subjects. I won't describe what I saw (but you're free to search for it on YouTube) but it got me thinking about avoiding meat and fish at all.

And here am I at day 1!

I have exchanged my lunch at my job canteen for pasta where I got to chose the ingredients.

I went to the supermarket after work and bought all I needed for today's recipe: tofu with mushrooms and zucchini with peanut sauce. It turned out really great and although my lunch at work is almost for free, I'll start to take my own lunch. (See photos below!)

But becoming a vegetarian isn't all about the animals. It also has to do with health.
Animals today are full of hormones (e.g. to fully grow a chicken in about 3 weeks!) and also antibiotics. These two are extremely harmful to our health.

Next step: asking my doctor for some blood testing in order to compare the results in 6 months and check the impact of becoming a vegetarian in my own health. I'll also make track of my stress level and  mood.

I'm pretty sure this is one of my best decisions ever!
